I recently got this comment from my teacher on one part of my thesis' data analysis:
Make an introduction to this part by explaining, on a theoretical and literature-based manner, why looking at how the household and neighborhood is portrayed would reflect the representation of poverty in film texts.
Well. Even if you're a social science, does it really take you a dozen books on theories of poverty to know that the freaking household is the perfect representation of the characters' lifestyle and socio-economic status, given that it shows what they own and the very dynamics of their daily life? And that portraying the neighborhood is a great way of providing a background of where the character is in the larger scale of things?* If the social sciences vehemently require a dozen citations from other people who just happened to write and publish something before you did just to be able to state the obvious, I am in the wrong discipline. Yes, I'd rather be an art major in this school, even if their students are awful and mostly posers who use art mainly to support their commercial artsiness.

Meanwhile, here is a drawing of me that Sean made. It's weird how sometimes I wish I can draw like he does when just a year ago he was frustrated with his underdeveloped art skills. But I guess he deserves this for actually pursuing what he wants, unlike me, the sell-out. It sucks how I still need him to remind me to do what I want rather than settle for something I'd have to work on and not use in the future, which is what I am doing now. If Aristophanes were right about how we look for 'the other half', he'd be it because somehow he is what I wish I were more like, including his ability to grow a beard.
*i know i will see this more clearly in a very social science way in the future, after this nightmare. but now i freaking hate having to do all this work.
